Transport & storage sector driving economic recovery, latest ONS data reveals

The transport and storage sector’s strong performance is playing a key role in helping the UK come out of recession, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The report has revealed that monthly real gross domestic product (GDP) grew by 0.4% in March 2024, up from 0.2% in February 2024 and 0.3% in January.  On a quarterly basis, GDP grew 0.6% in the three months to March 2024, compared with the three months to December 2023. ABE Ledbury joins The Hazchem Network

Transport and logistics specialist ABE Ledbury is adding another string to its bow by joining The Hazchem Network, the UK’s only hazardous goods pallet and parcel network. The Palletline Logistics-owned company is taking on the work of two former members of The Hazchem Network, covering the HR, LD, SY7-8 and GL14-19 postcodes.  The new service has now gone live. Aztek Logistics fits Letchworth warehouse with huge array of solar panels

Aztek Logistics has equipped the roof of its warehouse in Letchworth with 482sq m of solar panels, stretching the entire length of the  25,000sq ft facility. The solar panels will not only help power the warehouse but also feed energy back into the grid for use by local homes and businesses. The equipment, which allows the warehouse to be carbon-neutral, is predicted to generate 93,008kWh of energy per annum. More investment is needed in driver facilities – RHA

The RHA told national media outlets that the industry needs improved driver facilities and action to tackle freight crime. From 30 April, lorries at Dover and the Eurotunnel at Folkestone carrying foods from Europe will be subject to new physical checks. These checks are due to be carried out at a government facility in Sevington, Kent. Pallet-Track has celebrated 20 years in business with a gala awards evening in Windsor for its 90 shareholder members. Hosted by TV broadcaster and radio DJ Vernon Kay, guests gathered at the De Vere Beaumont Estate to recognise the contributions of its members to the pallet network’s success. Manchester haulier expands with pallet network membership

A family-run haulage firm in Manchester, that runs its entire fleet on renewable fuel, is accelerating towards expansion after becoming a Network Member of Pallet-Track. Worsley-based JSP Hauliers is investing over £200,000 in new vehicles and creating up to five new jobs because of this partnership.
