Darren Cronshaw, Owner

I am the Owner of Vigo Software, providing logistics software solutions to the UK market place.

Over the last 25 years I have devoted all of my working life to the logistics and supply chain sector. I was a shareholder of a very successful 3PL business that utilised the Vigo products and services.

I strongly believe that the investment in Vigo technology helped deliver substantial growth, profitability and improved service levels.

After selling Atchison Topeka Transport and Warehousing in 2011, I wanted to work for the industry and help businesses thrive in a very competitive market. After spending 2 years consulting it was clear that the logistics sector needs capable, innovative technology partners. So I joined Vigo Software and became the majority shareholder.

With over 350 clients and several thousand users and growing, we have a fantastic opportunity to drive innovation, listen to our customers and design technology solutions that deliver real benefit to the industry.

John Vickers, Managing Director

John LinkedIn

I am the Managing Director of Vigo Software, bringing over 25 years of logistics industry experience and a former Vigo customer.

My interest in logistics started while I was still at school, and since then I’ve clocked up valuable organisational and operational experience in several leading companies, including Samworth Brothers and Baylis Distribution.

No stranger to business transformation, I am keenly aware of the need for reliable data for businesses to be able to make effective decisions and improve margins.

Prior to joining the team at Vigo, I used our products and can account for their ease of use and ability to gather accurate data, which led to my former businesses improving on service and profit.

In fact I’m so convinced that Vigo’s technologies can help you streamline your operations and improve margins, I decided to join Vigo as the face our customers will know and trust.

Keith Taylor, Vigo Software Founder

Recruited as a programmer from University in the mid 60s by ICT, the UK competition to IBM, I worked on mainframes that were closed down on Friday afternoon for maintenance and had 5 megabyte hard disk drives the size of a two-drawer filing cabinet. Even then the capability of IT impressed me.

In 1982, frustrated by a large company that did not seem to be dealing with the arrival of ’microcomputers’, which later became formalised by IBM calling them PCs (personal computers), I ventured out on my own.

Three years later we were exhibiting as usual at an annual NEC show called ‘Which Computer’. As well as software on our stand we had a Sanyo computer called the 555 (five in Japanese is pronounced ‘GO’) for £999. A direct competitor to the IBM PC priced at over £2500 this obviously generated a lot of interest.

One visitor to the stand was forming a nationwide network to distribute parcels. In those days you could run a parcel distribution site from a garden shed or garage, employing a man with a white van and a dog (the dog was optional). The company wished to revise this image and to set up a professional operation involving over 50 already firmly-established traders.

My experience as project manager for a major UK tea distributor providing (on a mainframe) a system communicating from headquarters to 27 sites throughout the UK provided a basis for designing and implementing a PC-based overnight network system.

Those were early days in electronic telecommunication and whilst data was transmitted by modem, the vehicles still brought their data in on floppy disk in case the modem connection had failed.

32 years on and things are very different. Pallet and parcel carriers, hauliers and groupage providers now use the Internet which has made global communication available to everyone.

I have handed Vigo over to younger minds but I enjoy involvement in IT and am still amazed by what the management team are designing and developing. Some things really are the stuff of science fiction.

For example: major ongoing Vigo development embraces Cloud technology. A Vigo user can have immediate access to crucial information about their organisation and the ability to control the necessary actions from anywhere in the world using any device such as a phone, palmtop, tablet, laptop or desktop.
