Edge Transport is a family managed business based in Deeside, North Wales. Founded in 1933, the business provides a range of services covering the whole UK.
Edge Transport have been based at a purpose built 6-acre facility in the Deeside industrial Park since 2015. With a BRC accredited warehouse and trans-shipment facility, the site and location enables them to offer the very best service to its customers and partner network, Palletline.
“We had been with our current software provider for over 10 years so the time felt right for an update to our system as it was no longer meeting our needs” comments Jonathan Edge, MD of Edge Transport. “We wanted to drive the business forward without increasing our overhead costs therefore we looked at investment in technology”.
“An important part of this update was the ability to plan quickly. We needed a modern, easy to use and intuitive system that would ease the burden of planning and maximise vehicle efficiency” he added.
“As shareholder members of Palletline it was critical any solution provider we worked with had full integration with; and a good understanding of networks” said Jonathan. “Vigo came highly recommended from another Palletline member and being a network specialist, they understood our needs”.
“We were blown away by the Vigo software demonstration and their knowledge of the logistics industry. The interface is highly up to date and integrates seamlessly with Palletline” comments Jonathan. “We didn’t need to look at any other providers as the Vigo systems could do everything we needed, and more. They had a real understanding of what the customer problems are.”
“As a result, we now have a more efficient TMS that integrates with our Palletline system. The online portal gives our customers full flexibility to enter jobs themselves along with traceability” comments Jonathan. Customers can now scan their own paperwork and book all their own jobs, track consignments and view PODS saving many hours of customer support.
Edge Transport are working with Vigo to redevelop their Bay Manager product which will provide significant benefits to the business. This manages the unloading and loading of goods using a bar-code scanner to efficiently record all track and trace events. “The new cross docking application will give the warehouse the ability to know where the inbound and outbound goods are in the cross-dock and what is outstanding, providing full traceability through the business” adds Jonathan.
