Department for Transport launches PR campaign to ensure hauliers are Brexit-ready

The RHA has welcomed the Department for Transport’s decision to launch a multi-million pound public information campaign to ensure businesses and hauliers are Brexit-ready.

Since the vote to leave the EU in June 2016, the RHA said little Brexit clarity has been forthcoming for hauliers from government sources.

However, the Department for Transport has now emailed over 70,000 UK operators, industry bodies and other interested parties with essential, detailed, information.

The campaign aims to ensure hauliers obtain everything they need from traders to get through border customs smoothly, reducing the risk of holdups at ports and ferry terminals.

Commenting, RHA chief executive, Richard Burnett said: “With only 38 working days to go until we leave the EU, it is essential that information is delivered in a clear and concise way. Traders, haulage operators in particular, simply don’t have time to digest and implement the small print. They need to know right now how to get through the next few months.

“It is essential that the entire supply chain here and abroad understands what will be required. This information will certainly reduce the impact but it won’t be until 1 November that we get a clearer idea of what the ‘impact’ actually looks like.”
